Meritec is pleased to introduce its new “Robust .100” Ribbon Cable (RRC) product line as a robust alternative to standard vinyl insulated IDC or IDT Ribbon Cable Assemblies.
IDC (Insulation Displacement Contact) and IDT (Insulation Displacement Termination) use insulation piercing technology, dependant on a mechanical compression fit on the wire and held together by two plastic members pressed together.
Meritec's “Robust .100” is a soldered conductor-to-contact termination as opposed to IDC/IDT termination. Its insert molded strain relief is overmolded to assure longevity of the assembly through the severest of conditions. The integral strain relief of the RRC assembly totally encapsulates the conductor-to-contact termination area thus preventing exposure often resulting in the oxidation and overall degradation of a typical IDC/IDT Ribbon Cable assembly.
Applications that experience vibration, mechanical stress, temperature cycling, high humidity and/or chemical exposure will benefit from the new RRC technology that will eliminate many of the undesirable attributes inherent in IDC/IDT assemblies.
Our Multi Signal Interconnect (MSI) manufacturing process has been well proven during the 15+ years in operation. The very same manufacturing process provides the RRC product line with similar high reliability, point-to-point assemblies that mate with industry standard .100” headers. Utilizing engineering grade dielectrics and TPO (thermoplastic olefin) insulated cable, the RRC assemblies provide superior mechanical performance when compared to commercially available vinyl insulated, and pressed together IDC/IDT Ribbon Cables.
If you are in need of quality and reliability for your application and have concerns with IDC/IDT style terminations on vinyl cable, please consider Meritec's “Robust .100” Ribbon Cable (RRC) assemblies as an alternative.
